Hallym University Museum

The Hallym University Museum opened in 1988 as an affiliated institution of Hallym University to collect and organize artifacts and folk items from prehistoric and historical eras. Through preservation and exhibition, it aims to provide a space for understanding historical culture for both university members and local residents, while contributing to the study of Korean history through the investigation and research of cultural properties. The museum features the first exhibition hall, which serves as the Archaeology and History Room, the second exhibition hall, which serves as the Folklore and Craft Room, and an outdoor exhibition area. Its collection includes approximately 1,700 items such as ceramics, earthenware, and old paintings and calligraphy, as well as approximately 3,000 state-owned artifacts excavated from Chuncheon Sinmaeri and Cheonjeonri sites and Gangwon-do and its surrounding areas. Representative exhibition items include artifacts ranging from prehistoric to historical eras excavated from sites such as the Chuncheon Sinmaeri and Cheonjeonri sites, Yangju Daemosanseong Fortress, and the Ganghwa Oegyujanggak site. The collection also features ancient earthenware from Baekje, Silla, and Gaya, Goryeo Dynasty ceramics, and folk items such as Ming Dynasty porcelain and traditional wardrobes from the Joseon Dynasty. Permanent exhibitions cover artifacts from the Paleolithic to the Joseon Dynasty, and special exhibitions are held once or twice a year during the spring and autumn. During special exhibition periods, an exhibition commentary session titled "Dialogue with the Curator" is held once a week. In addition, the museum operates educational programs such as "Museum Containing Imagination" for local youth, as well as programs for families and career education programs. It also runs cultural events for local residents, including the Citizen Museum University lectures and Cultural Contents Makers programs.
